Introduction and Overview:
International Medical Graduates (IMGs) aspiring to pursue a career in orthopaedics in the UK often face significant challenges in navigating the system due to a lack of formal guidance. The traditional pathways, such as the ST3 recruitment process and the CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) now known as Portfolio Pathway(PP), are complex and can be daunting without proper support. During my own journey as an IMG, I realized there was minimal structured assistance available, leading to unnecessary delays in career progression. To address this gap, I propose a dedicated course designed to provide comprehensive guidance for IMGs aiming to progress in orthopaedics in the UK
Course Structure and Format:
- Duration: One full day (9:30 AM – 1:30 PM)
- Format: Online
- Portfolio Pathway Workshops:
- Gathering Workplace-Based Assessments (WBAs): Strategies to collect and document WBAs effectively.
- Building a Research Portfolio: Guidance on gathering and presenting research evidence.
- Leadership and Management Portfolio: Compiling evidence for leadership experience.
- Safety, Communication, MDT, and Governance Portfolio: How to gather and present evidence in these key areas.
- CV Writing for CESR: Crafting an effective CV tailored to the CESR application.
